Huge thank you to the team at RG Kellow Ltd for their hard work last Friday at our Windmill Farm nature reserve. 🌿 Windmill Farm sits within the Lizard Special Area of Conservation, one of the most botanically rich landscapes in the UK. The heathlands here support an impressive 17 regularly recorded species of dragonfly and damselfly, and the reserve is a brilliant spot for birdwatchers, with whitethroat, reed, sedge and willow warblers all calling it home. It's also one of Cornwall's best sites for hearing the unmistakable call of the cuckoo drifting across the heath. The team's efforts will help us manage the site and keep it accessible for visitors, ensuring more people can experience and connect with this special place. Special thanks too to Eagle Plant and Plumbase for supporting the day. 👏 If your business would like to roll up its sleeves and spend a day making a real difference for Cornwall's wildlife, we'd love to hear from you. 🦗
We had a fantastic day in the Community last Friday as we headed to Windmill Farm Nature Reserve on the Lizard to support our friends at Cornwall Wildlife Trust with some of their maintenance. We hope you enjoy the video capturing how the day looked to us - you will see we covered alot of ground....literally! Thanks to our Team, to the Reserves Team from CWT and also Eagle Plant Truro for supporting us with the welfare facilities for the day, and Plumbase Redruth for supporting us with the delicious Gear Farm pasties. Special thanks also to Bev and Sally from Cornwall Wildlife Trust for the refreshments! Teamwork at it's best! With the hot weather we've been having, it feels fitting that ocean sunfish (Mola mola) have been spotted off the coast of Cornwall. While they're often seen "sunbathing" at the surface, these remarkable fish are actually undertaking incredible journeys. Tagging studies show they can travel thousands of kilometres, moving between feeding grounds and warmer waters, often following jellyfish blooms. Despite their size and nature, these gentle giants are classed as vulnerable, facing threats from plastic pollution and bycatch. Their presence here is a reminder that Cornwall's waters are part of a much bigger, connected marine world. Footage shared by Richard, who enjoyed this spectacle during a boat trip from Looe. #NationalMarineWeek #IncredibleJourneys

Another hot day in the UK. With heat, drought, storms, and warnings becoming more frequent, and scientists clear that future decades will see more intense and frequent extreme weather, nature is already feeling the strain. We're in a twin, inextricably linked crisis of climate and nature, and we can't solve one without the other. By protecting nature, we can help mitigate the effects of climate change. Nature isn't just another thing at risk, it's one of the biggest tools we have to respond. 🌱 Sit beneath the canopy of a tree and you'll feel natural climate regulation in action; shade, cooling and more moisture held in the air. That's why we're restoring temperate rainforest in Cornwall. 🦫 Visit a beaver created landscape, like Woodland Valley Farm, and you'll see how water is slowed and stored, reducing flood risk and helping with drought conditions. That's why we're releasing wild beavers in Cornwall. 🦋 Restoring wetlands helps lock up more carbon, while ensuring landscapes can absorb and release water more naturally. That's why we're working to restore wetland habitats these across Cornwall. Our work is full of nature-based solutions to our changing climate. And at scale, they can help to reduce emissions and protect us from the impacts we're already experiencing. But we can't do it alone. Nature and climate need more people acting together, and supported by policy. There are hopeful, practical actions we can take, because doing changes things. Join us, volunteer with us, take action for nature with us. #DoingChangesThings #CreatingaCornwallWhereNatureThrives

Award Winning 🎉 A proud moment for Alison Smith, our Temperate Rainforest Project Manager, collecting a national climate award on behalf of Cornwall Wildlife Trust, and just in time for World Rainforest Day. Our rainforest restoration project was chosen as a winner of 'The Pride in Our Planet Awards', selected from more than 320 nominations across the UK and judged by an independent panel chaired by Climate Minister Katie White OBE MP. On a day created to celebrate rainforests around the world, this award really highlights the importance of temperate rainforest, one of Britain's rarest habitats, and the urgent need to protect and restore it. This work is part of a wider effort led by The Wildlife Trusts, in partnership with Aviva, to expand the small number of these wild and wet woodlands we have left. Nearly 5,000 trees planted already - and this is just the beginning. Together, we're creating a wilder Cornwall where nature thrives. Proud to be a member of the South West Rainforest Alliance #BecauseDoingChangesThings #WorldRainforestDay #TemperateRainforest

Postcards from a team bonding day when you work at Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Sometimes it's really important to get out from behind the desk and experience the work you do from a different perspective. This week, our whole team swapped their usual work for a day on the beach, taking part in some of the activities that our marine team deliver. From snorkelling and rock-pooling to shanty-singing and creating sand art, it was a chance to connect with and learn about Cornwall's incredible marine environment that we are all working to protect. What could be more inspiring?

Another exciting opportunity to join the team here at Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Head to our website for all the details.
📢 🌊 Marine conservation opportunity: please share! 🌊 📢 Folks, we have another brilliant marine job opportunity coming up with my team at Cornwall Wildlife Trust. This one is for our seascape-scale restoration work in the Fal and Helford Special Area of Conservation. We're recruiting a Marine Restoration Assistant to join a new partnership project with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Ocean Conservation Trust, Cornwall Council and University of Exeter Centre for Ecology and Conservation to restore native oyster populations and seagrass meadows across this internationally important estuary system. You'll lead on establishing and coordinating two to three community-managed native oyster nurseries, support cultch deployment, and help deliver intertidal seagrass seed collection and planting. Alongside this, you'll train and support volunteers and citizen scientists, helping to build a community of marine stewards that will look after these habitats into the future. We're looking for someone practical, organised and passionate about the sea. If you have any questions please reach out. Full details and how to apply here: https://lnkd.in/eqE9NH4p

Bringing people together for nature — because awareness is the first step to action. 🌿 Last night, Cornwall Wildlife Trust was proud to host a screening of the National Emergency Briefing in collaboration with the National Trust — bringing people together to better understand the scale of the climate and nature crisis, and the solutions already within reach. The National Emergency Briefing is a powerful public information initiative, ensuring the UK is fully briefed on the climate and nature crisis. It showcases brilliant expert voices, highlighting real solutions, and setting out clear asks to government. Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together, sharing knowledge, and sparking conversations that lead to action. 👉 We’d strongly encourage others — community groups, organisations, and businesses — to host a screening and be part of growing this vital national conversation.
