Make the Commit Summary field more prominent and clear as a require field. #20817

The feature request

Hi GitHub Team,

I’d like to suggest a small UX improvement for GitHub Desktop. The "Commit Summary" field — although required — is quite small and less visually prominent than the optional description field.

This sometimes causes confusion, especially for newer users, who accidentally write the message in the large (optional) description box and leave the summary empty — which then disables the Commit button with little explanation.

It would be helpful if:

The Summary field had a more prominent visual style (larger, outlined, or different color)

A note or tooltip made it clearer that this field is required

The order of emphasis between Summary and Description better reflected their importance

Thanks for your amazing work — this small change could greatly improve usability.

Best regards,
