Description
What happened?
I was very impressed with graphane at first. I have to say that in my career I have used all kind of tools, like Microstrategy, all versions of Excel, PowerBi (Google Data Studio), Drive automations, Tableou etc. That's how I found Grafana, I do dozens of dashboards for micro businesses with a hidden but public link. And since yesterday - they are inaccessible. I migrate to a server where PostgreSQL is - same. Then I realise: You are using the OSS (Open Source) version of Grafana 12, not Enterprise or Cloud.
Since Grafana 12, Access Policies (including "Public access settings") is part of Grafana Enterprise or Cloud licenses.
"Regarding "Allow public access" for datasources: this is functionality that is removed from the User Interface for Grafana OSS 12.x and moved to Access Policies, which are only available in the Enterprise or Cloud editions of Grafana. The OSS edition does not support this functionality in the new version 12.x .
Therefore you no longer see the "Allow public access" option in the datasource, nor the "Access Policies" menu under Administration.
🔄 What does this mean for you?
Until Grafana 11, you could still manually check Allow public access in the OSS version.
In Grafana 12 OSS they removed this functionality from the UI because it is now part of the Enterprise functionality."
I can only downgrade it to 11
I think these corporate moves are very unfair. More than 10 clients suddenly lost access to data. Not counting a few hours of fault-finding. You could at least hide the external link so we don't look for errors.. I'd rather program my own dashboard. Grafana - Goodbye forever.
