At the moment the instructions simple say "You then need to recreate the container with the new image" and following the link and the instructions on the linked page results in a clean install of HA in a container with no instructions of how to restore one's configuration. The instructions under "updating" on the common tasks/container page should explain how to make a back-up and restore it after updating a container. That is part of the updating process.
