I was looking how to make a custom card span across several columns. I did not find any information on how to achieve that in the #yaml-configuration section of the documentation. Another approach could be to enable the layout tab for custom cards, too. Meanwhile, just having the available layout options listed in the sections doc would already suffice.

For example:

layout_options:
  grid_columns: 12 #card spans 12 columns
  grid_rows: 7 #card spans 7 rows
