Autumn Ringing at Ripon Parks 2024

There have been a steady flow of birds to ring at Ripon Parks over the months of August to November with summer visitors migrating south after the breeding season and plenty of new winter visitors coming in from the north and east over the last few weeks. There have been good numbers of Redwing around and a few Fieldfare along with other members of the thrush family. There have been very few Lesser Redpoll this year so far and a dearth of smaller birds in general though we have ringed some very late departing Blackcaps and Chiffchaff. Full ringing totals will appear soon. Two particular highlights for the season were the ringing of two new species for the group in the form of an adult female Hawfinch and two 1st year Yellow-browed warblers. We hope we have some interesting recoveries as the year moves on.

Click on the following for more highlights from the last few weeks.
